From 1 March 2026, Medicare has expanded access to speech pathology services for children with complex neurodevelopmental conditions and eligible disabilities.
This means some families may be able to access Medicare-funded speech therapy through an eligible care plan, reducing the need to use NDIS funding for these services.
If you think your child may be eligible, the first step is to speak with your GP. They can assess your child's needs, discuss the available Medicare options, and provide a referral if appropriate.
If you have any questions about how speech therapy can support your child's development, we're always happy to help guide you in the right direction.
